"Ports" Came About Thanks to the Wars Between the English & the French. The French Had Blocked Access to Their Grapes for Wine So the English Had to Find Another Source. Wine Started Coming Out of Portugal, but to Prevent Spoilage During the Sea Voyage the Shippers Would Continually Add Brandy to Preserve It, Until the Wine Became a Different Beverage Altogether. The Wine Is Called Port Because the Grapes Were Ferried Down the Douro River & Ended in the Wineries in Oporto (Porto), Portugal, Where They Then Go to England for Consumption.
