Bad, bad experience. My husband and I had dinner here the other evening towards the end of the night. The staff was more than eager to leave, a sentiment I can certainly understand. What I cannot understand was how what they served us could pass as reasonable restaraunt food. Our order of bbq-ed beef and a noodle dish came suspiciously quickly and it was more than obviously it hadnt been cooked for us. The slices of beef which resembled and tasted like shoe leather must have been cooked hours or days before and reheated in a microwave. Needless the say, we hardly touched either dish, especially the meat. No one bothered to ask if there was a problem.
I like it and a few of other Thai places too.
I like it because I like Thaifood, especially spicy Thai food and there are not a lot of good Asian restaurants in Anchorage, most of which are owned by Koreans. I only been there once and the dish I ordered was spicy. That is why I give it 4 stars. Acording to one Thai friend I met, she thinks that one is quite original.
There is another one behind city dinner on Minnesota and Benson, called Thai Cuisine II. Good food too. My husband loves it. There are not a lot of costomers, I wonder why, probably because it is new--I even couldnt find its address online after my colleague told me about it.
I don't know why people like the the Thai Kitchen on Tudor, it is not good at all. Probably it caters to local's taste. Too seet for me.
I like the Thai Orchid at Diamond and King st. but accroding my friend, the owner is actully myanmarian, so the food is not quite original Thai. The service is slow and the restaurant is small, that is why I am not there very often. But the vegetable is quite fresh and food is good too.
You can find the most authentic Thai food here.. I am Thai and this is just my own opinion. I heard of this place from Thai friends of mine and decided to go there to taste the food myself. Got there in the evening on one weekday, there were plenty of empty spots to park the car in a parking lot by the restaurant. The restaurant was nice and clean and decorated with a mixture of different parts of Thailand. The appetizers were excellent. I had fish cakes and some other dishes. The fish cakes were just like "home". Then I ordered a few more entrees. Wow.. I felt like home. The food was really really great! Found out that the owner of the restaurant is Thai and he usually goes back to Thailand quite often to prepare the ingrediants for the food and brings them back to the US. No surprise why the food tastes like you are actually sitting in a restaurant in Thailand. For those who loves REAL Thai food, I would highly recommend the place. However, if you're looking for Americanized Thai food, I am not sure this is a place for you. I will be back again!!!!
