Wonderful School, Fabulous Staff!
I took a personal day off from my teaching job, to observe a day of my grandson's preschool program at Children's World Montessori. As a seasoned teacher for 32 years, I went in to observe with a critical eye. I was very impressed with not only the clean facility that was adapted to the needs of the little ones, but also the Montessori materials. The staff were all kind and loving to the students, and they seemed to maintain a peaceful, structured environment at all times. And as an added bonus, the kids get to learn Spanish!
My grandson loves it there, everyday he gets up and says "Today I get to go to preschool!" He tells me how he can say things in Spanish, and I have caught him counting in Spanish on his own. Sometimes he will quote one of his teachers, and it is always with a smile on his face. We know he is well taken care of ,and he has blossomed sociably and academically.
I have thoroughly enjoyed our experience at Children's World. We have been there 5 years now. My oldest daughter completed the program and my other 2 are still going. They have always communicated with us from problems to progress that my children have made. Per a previous comment we have gone 2-3 days a week both 1/2 days and full days and never felt that we received any different treatment than those who attend full time. We have seen teachers come and go but everyone they hire to replace has been equally caring/competent. My girls have learned so much from the abcs, numbers, calendars, dinosaurs, bugs, the solar system gardening, organizing, cleaning up after themselves, and all in Spanish. I am so happy that we were able to find a bilingual and montessori preschool for our girls. The prices are reasonable and they have very flexible schedules to work with your needs. I couldn't have found that any where else in Anchorage. I give them an A+ as a preschool and can't thank them enough for all that they have done for my girls. If I had to do it all over again I would easily pick them hands down.
I'm not sure what the situation was on the individuals commenting prior, but in my experience Children's World is the best care facility for kids in Anchorage.
My 2 kids have gone there since they were 2, the oldest is in Kindergartnen now and my little girl is in the Pre-school.
All teachers are and have always been extremely loving and caring towards my kids.
They have learned so much, from writting, to the solar system.
Every day they amaze me with the new things they learn at school, including manners and good habits.
If I have to do it all over again, I wouldn't think it twice. It's worth every penny I've paid.
The school is always clean and safety of my kids is always a priority.
Education is very important to me and paired with a loving environment..... I actually doubt you can find a better place in anchorage to leave your kids.
This is all without mentioning how cute is to see little kids speaking a language that their parents can't....
Children's World is the most dis organized school. The teachers and other staff does not know the rules of the school and this allows the owner of the school "Maria" to change them the way she wants.
If you ask the staff about the rules they will tell you something and then Maria (the owner) will start leaving insulting notes for you or will start sending you invoice for the fine you have to pay (even when you have confirmed with their staff about the rules and regulation).
Be ready for the surprise bills and surprise fee increase every now and then. They tell you something else about the fees and the actual bill is something else . There are surprise invoices year round for things you were never told or informed about.
My child was been beaten up by his class mate all the time, I made several complaints but no action was taken against that child and neither his parents were informaed about his beating habit beacuse the other child attended the school full time and my child did not.
My child was treated differently than other kids because she attended school only 2 days a week. They will never put my child's picture on the class bulletin board with the pictures of other kids.My kid always asked me why his picture is not there? and when I asked them they said they will put one soon but after asking them several times they did not do it and then one day a employee of school tells me that they favour the kids who attend the school full time because they give them more business. The staff does not know what is going on and the staff cannot speak english at all. My kid was asking them to help him use the rest room but the teacher did not understand even a basic english and ultimately my kid had and accident.
I have found a good school for my boy two years ago and today I met a friend, his kids go to Children's World and he shared a similer bad experience with me and this has made me write down my experience with Children's World .
Caveat emptor – Our son was at this daycare for nearly a year before we received a phone call from Maria, the owner, that we had two weeks to find our son a new daycare.
We were informed that our son was "very bright" and as a consequence would become bored and disruptive; requiring too much attention from the teachers. When we asked if we could move him to the 3 yr class she informed us that he wasn't "emotionally mature enough".
Regardless, we never received any notice of behavioral issues or areas where he needed improvement. Everyday when we picked him up they said "he had a good day". We were completely dumbfounded. Now granted there could be a communication issue since neither my wife and I speak Spanish and many of the care providers had a limited proficiency with English.
Then to add insult to injury, Maria completely forgot about our meeting to discuss our son's disposition and behavior. My wife and I both took off from work for this appointment only to be stood-up. Very unprofessional.
It's clear that this daycare has very little concern for the children they care for. If they did, then they would have provided us with more feedback, a plan for addressing any issues and adequate time to find a new daycare for our son.
Lastly, this is not an inexpensive daycare, so if you want to: pay $975/month, $100/semester for participation fees, provide classroom snacks (up to two times a month) for 14 children (plus daily lunch for your child), arrange your work schedule around the local school vacation schedule (so in essence you pay for 12 calender months but you get less than 11 months of daycare each year) for a program that doesn't assist with potty training, provides absolutely no feedback and can drop your child like a hot potato whenever they see fit...then this is your place.
be careful! – Son was dismissed due to behavior issues that we were never informed about. We made ourselves readily available to the school and we only ever received positive feedback. I feel they let us down by not involving us and they did a disservice to him. I also question what really happened due to them not informing us or ever having documented any problems. He attended for 1 year and it seemed everyone liked him-it didn't add up! I just pray something bad didn't happen and will probably never know.
