Good basic Japanese and full-service sushi bar.
A favorite of long-term locals looking for good low-impact Japanese at an affordable price, where you can take the kids and relax.
A good sushi bar for the fanatic and a nice casual low-key seating area for everyone else. Family friendly. Very informal.
Food is fresh and well prepared, service is good. Bang for the buck is great for traditionally over-priced Japanese food. Great lunches - nice affordable satisfying plates won't send you to the mortgage broker.

Hard to beat sushi.
This is one great place for sushi. I had my doubts when I walked into the restuarant seeing that it was a bit run down. My attitude took a 180 degree turn once I sat down at the sushi bar and had some of the best sushi ever. I am a very picky sushi eater and I can honestly say that Yamato Ya is one of the best sushi place I have ever been to. If you are into "fru fru" sushi, this may not be the place for you. But if you are a true sushi lover, Yamato Ya is a must whenever you are in Anchorage.
