Pete's City Gym, the Happy Gym for a pleasant workout
by Jerry Dale at Citysearch
I first found Pete's City Gym 10 years ago when I moved from Soldotna to Anchorage. Price was the first thing that got my attention and when I saw how well kept it was I paid my dues. No contract! Month to month. The staff is friendly, the clients--both men and women--are great and everything you need from weights to aerobics are available. Then I found out the place is historic. One of the first gyms in Anchorage. It was originally in the old City Hall Annex where the PAC is now located. If you want to hear some history ask Mark, the manager, who it may be argued is history him self. Pete's is great.
Friendliest gym in town

Pete's City Gym is run by and for it's members. There is a board of directors that come from the membership. People who worknout there love the gym and wouldn't consider going anywhere else. There are no hidden fees , no long term contracts. If you go there you will make a lot of friends and get a great workout. In short we love the gym.
Pete's Great Workout

I'm new to working out at a gym and at 65 decided I needed to. I've been working out at Pete's for the past six months and I love it. The place is clean, the members are nice and it's never crowded. The price is certainly right! The downtown location is a big plus. My wife and 20 something daughter have both joined and are equally impressed with Pete's.
Terrible Customer Service, VERY Unsanitary

I've been to a lot of gym's in my day and this is one place you will want to avoid. First of all, their are crowds of homeless drunks that hang out all around the place, including in the bathrooms and even in the sauna. Last time I was there some one had urinated in the sauna, all over the floor, the benches and even the oven, and the people that work there didn't even clean it up. Then you have to deal with the jerks that run the place. They are constantly bothering you while you try to work out and hassle the members about very petty things, i.e. clinking the weights or dropping them. For the money, go to Worlds Gym in mid town, much friendlier, and cleaner.
- Pros: downtown
- Cons: everything else
